The Museu Nacional do Azulejo, in Lisbon, is one of the most important museums in Portugal, for its unique collection, dedicated to the azulejo, an artistic expression that distinguishes Portuguese culture, and for the unique building in which it is housed, the former Convento da Madre de Deus, founded in 1509 by Queen Leonor (1458-1525). In the collection, a highlight is a panel of tiles representing a panoramic view of Lisbon before the earthquake of 1755.
